Connecting your gas oven is a job for professionals in most cases. When you work with gas, there are certain precautions that need to be taken. First of all gas leaks can cause health issues and worse fire. If you have never installed a stove or other gas appliance you should have your contractor or the company you purchased the stove from do the installation. Despite needing professionals to do the installation you can make sure you have, the gas cooker connections required to install the stove. The US and UK will have different gas cooker connections. The appliance you purchase in the US should be manufactured for your US connections, but you may have to seek alternatives just in case.

The typical gas cooker connections are 15mm in diameter. This is the size of the pipe fitting which runs the gas pipe from the wall into your stove. You have parallel or taper style gas cooker connections. They can also be in different shapes. For example, you might have an elbow style gas cooker connection. The pipe will screw straight in from the stove, but you also have a little something extra on the top. This is the parallel F. The Parallel F 15mm ID is just one straight connector.

There may be incidences where you require something other than a 15mm connection. There are 12mm gas cooker connections available. These gas cooker connections can be used when you replace an older stove. For example, you may have had a small stove that fit in your kitchen, but now you are upgrading to a full sized cooker. You may need a connector that changes the pipe sizes to fit with the new stove.

Before an installation is complete and the stove is tested, the line needs to be checked for any leaks. You can do this with water. If there is a gas leak in the pipe, the water will bubble when the gas is turned on. This tells you other parts need replacing. It can also show if the cooker connections were installed correctly to help, you avoid any issues.
