Propane Level Gauge

Since most people use propane gas for various purposes, it becomes essential to be able to find out the level of propane gas left in our gas tank. There are multiple ways to accomplish this task. We will discuss two of them in this article

The first method is a little bit complex method and takes a little bit of effort from our part. Also, this method can only give us an approximate measure of the gas left in our tank. In all gas tanks, a number will be printed adjacent to the letters “TW”. This number gives the actual weight of the gas tank when it is empty. Now, we should find out the current weight of our propane gas tank. The difference between both the weights will give us the amount of propane left in the gas tank. Our job is not finished yet because the reading that we have obtained is in lbs. We have to convert this reading into BTUs. Use the following steps to accomplish this task

First of all, convert the weight in lbs to gallons. For this, you have to divide the weight by 4.23. Next, you have to convert the gallons into BTUs. For this, you have to multiply the previous result with 91,690. Now you have the final result in BTUs. Now, go to the manufacturer’s website and find out the actual output of the gas tank. After finding the actual output of the gas tank (in hours), you should divide this by the reading that we got in BTUs. This will give you an approximate reading of the run time left in our gas tank.

The second method is by the use of propane level gauge. With the use of propane level gauge, we can find out the amount of propane left in our tank by just looking at the reading in the level gauge. Some gauges even show us different readings for hot and cold days which will enable us to plan our usage. These can also be used to detect leaks in the propane gas tank. Apart from knowing the level of propane left in our gas tank, a propane level gauge also helps us to ensure that all safety measures are taken. Now you can save your embarrassment of your tank running out of gas during important times. The cost of propane level gauge can be as less than $20. Installing a propane level gauge is an easy task and can be accomplished with ease.
