Low Pressure Propane

Propane Gas is very popular among campers, automobile owners and barbecue owners as it is a good substitute for wood, natural gas or any of the other combustible materials. Its increasing usage is very good reason for consumers to get more knowledge about it and also they can make planned choices for all their household heating needs.

Introduction to propane gas:

It is a gas and an alkane at atmospheric pressure. Storage is done in the form of liquid and usage is in a gaseous form. It liquefies easily under low pressure and is hence amenable for domestic use. This gas is odourless and non-toxic, however addition of an identifying odour helps in quick detection.

Propane gas is not natural; however it is produced after the completion of two other processes – the refining of petroleum and processing the natural gas.

In the presence of O2 propane gas will burn well, thereby producing large amounts of heat when it is combusted properly, and also emits little amounts of CO2, hence making it a clean fuel for burning.

Usefulness:

* A low boiling point of -420C degrees means that the propane gas vaporizes quickly once it is released and is ready to be used for barbecues.

* Since it is a very clean fuel, transportation becomes easy and usage can be done with a minimal danger. Hence it is useful for locomotives, campers and recreational vehicles. It doesn’t dilute the engine oil and also causes minimal engine wear. Its octane rating is also very high.

* It can also be put in use like refrigerant and has proved to be much more efficient compared to the conventional refrigerating gas.

* For hot air balloons it is used as a primary fuel, in the film industry for some special effects, helps in manufacturing propellants and semi-conductors and also for drying crops and controlling weeds in agriculture.

Precautions: Though it is very safe it can however asphyxiate if replaced with oxygen. Do not try to ignore pungent odour in case there is a propane tank in the same place. Air is lighter than propane gas. In case there is a leakage in a propane fuel tank, the gas will get absorbed in the enclosed area and thus there are high chances of an explosion and fire.

Nowadays since this low pressure propane gas is getting popular; it will be safe to welcome this gas as a good option for fuel in the coming future.
